Intelligent Building (IB) is a very important entity in the current world that we are living in. It strives to provides its occupant with optimization of building resources and desirable ambient condition.  IB hosts a multitude of heterogenous systems and devices which operates seamlessly to achieve the above aims.  A centralized intelligence and control mechanism are imbued into the building to enable it to understand the ambience and take mitigation action whenever necessary. Such mechanism must exhibit a high degree of system and device agnosticism and must be flexible enough to accommodate scale able implementation according to building size and features. Thus, the main challenge in developing an intelligent building lies in the ability to come out with such mechanism, oftentimes implemented as a platform upon which the building is granted its intelligence and achieve its ability to sense, understand and act accordingly. In this research, we seek to design, develop and implement such a platform using the core elements of IR4.0 which is the emerging paradigm in developing intelligent systems nowadays. The project will be executed in three phases. In Phase 1, the details of the platform’s interface, protocols, APIs and structure will be designed. This design will be implemented and executed utilizing the core elements of IR4.0 in the 2nd Phase. In Phase 3 of the research, two case studies (i) A Surveillance Robotic System and (ii) An Occupant Aware Energy Control Mechanism will be integrated into the platform to test its effectiveness. Upon completion, it is anticipated that the developed IB will be able to showcase (i)the deployment of a surveillance robot in performing investigation and rectification of anomalous events and (ii) the optimization the building electrical energy consumption. The output of this research will expedite IR4 adoption and acceptance into our daily life via IB.
